How much do aluminum windows cost in North Carolina?
Short answer: installed aluminum windows in North Carolina generally run about $560 to $857 per window for basic units, and $1,200 to $2,200 per window for custom, thermally broken systems with professional installation. Where your project lands inside that range depends on size, glazing, finish, and how the windows are made — stock off a shelf, or fabricated to your openings. Below is what actually moves the number, so you can budget with real expectations instead of a guess.

I’m Julian, and I run Everva here in North Carolina. I quote aluminum window and door projects every week, from a single oversized slider for a renovation to a full architectural package on a new build. Price is almost always the first question. It’s a fair one — and the honest answer has a few moving parts.
What you’re actually paying for
A window price isn’t one thing. It’s the sum of several decisions, and most of them are yours to make:
Size and configuration. A standard fixed window and a 12-foot lift-and-slide door are not in the same conversation. Larger glass needs stronger framing, heavier hardware, and more careful installation. The bigger and more operable the unit, the more it costs.
Frame and thermal break. This is where aluminum earns its price. A thermally broken aluminum frame puts a polyamide barrier between the inside and outside of the metal, which is what makes the window energy-efficient instead of a heat conductor. Wider, better-engineered thermal breaks cost more and perform better.
Glazing. Double-pane Low-E with argon is the practical baseline. Triple glazing with krypton fill costs more and pushes thermal and acoustic performance considerably further — worth it on a mountain build or a road-facing wall, less critical elsewhere.
Finish. A standard powder-coat color is included in most quotes. Anodized finishes, wood-grain laminates, and independent interior/exterior dual-color cost more because they’re a different process.
Installation. Labor in North Carolina typically runs a few hundred dollars per opening, more for large or structural work. A clean install is not the place to save money — a great window installed poorly leaks, sticks, and voids its own warranty.
Why custom aluminum sits at the higher end
Here’s the distinction that explains most of the price gap people ask about. A stock vinyl window exists before you order it — it’s sized, built, and boxed, waiting on a shelf. A custom aluminum window doesn’t exist until your dimensions, glazing, and finish are locked in. It’s then cut to your opening and rated as that exact configuration.
You’re paying for fabrication, not selection. That’s also why aluminum can do things stock windows can’t: slim sightlines down to around 20 millimeters, glass spans past 12 feet, and frame depths matched to the wall. If the architecture is doing the talking, that capability is the point. If you just need a functional replacement in a standard opening, a stock product may be the smarter spend — I’ll tell you that plainly if it’s true for your project.

Lead time is part of the price conversation
Custom aluminum runs about 10 to 14 weeks from order confirmation. People sometimes read that as a downside. It isn’t — it’s what build-to-spec requires. Every unit is fabricated to your openings and NFRC-rated as configured, not pulled from inventory. You can’t get a true architectural window in two weeks from anyone.
The practical move is to order early. On a new build, that means locking your window package well before you need it on site, so the lead time runs in parallel with the rest of your schedule instead of holding it up.
What a real quote includes
A number is only useful if you know what’s behind it. When we quote a project, the figure accounts for the fabricated units, the glazing and finish you chose, hardware, and delivery. A few things worth knowing about how we handle it:
Quotes hold for 30 days, with tariffs included. The price you’re shown is the price you pay inside that window — no surprise pass-throughs later.
Payment is structured in milestones — typically 60/40, or 50/40/10 on larger orders — so cash flow stays predictable on both sides.
Every unit is NFRC-rated and certified (CSA, AAMA-tested, ENERGY STAR qualified for the climate zone), and backed by Everva’s 10-year warranty handled locally in North Carolina.
That last point matters more than it looks on a spreadsheet. A cheaper window with no local backing can cost you far more the first time a seal fails and you’re trying to reach a factory overseas.
Do aluminum windows pay you back?
Partly, and it depends what you’re measuring. On resale, the industry’s 2025 Cost vs. Value report pegs window replacement at roughly 68.5% cost recouped for vinyl and 61.2% for wood. Aluminum isn’t broken out separately, so treat those as the category benchmark, not a promise.
The return that’s easier to feel is the one on your energy bill and your comfort. North Carolina asks a lot of a window — humid Piedmont summers, real mountain winters out west, and storm exposure toward the coast. A tighter, better-insulated window holds conditioned air where you want it. Everva systems reach U-factors as low as 0.21, and lower with triple glazing, which is well past what most NC energy codes require.
How to budget your project
If you’re scoping a number before you talk to anyone, count your openings, sort them by rough size, and assume custom thermally broken aluminum lands toward the upper part of the range above. Then decide where performance actually matters — the big glass on the view side, the road-facing wall, the rooms you live in — and where a simpler spec is fine. That’s usually a more honest budget than a flat per-window guess.
When you’re ready for a real number, send me your openings and your targets. I’ll put together a quote that reflects your actual project, not a teaser range.
