Casement sashes can be specified to open inward or outward. Outward-opening keeps the room clear and is the more common choice on North American projects. Inward-opening lets you clean the exterior glass from inside and never conflicts with a screen, an awning or anything mounted outside the opening.

Any unit can be finished in one colour on the interior face and another on the exterior. A warm interior tone against a dark exterior is the most common request — it lets the window match the room without fighting the elevation. Dual-colour changes nothing about thermal or structural performance.

A casement swings fully clear on multi-point locking hardware that compresses the sash into the frame at several points, giving a wider unobstructed opening and better cross-ventilation than a sash that slides within its own frame. Which is right for a project depends on the opening, the view and how the room needs to ventilate.
A fully clear opening makes egress compliance straightforward where a partial-opening sash would not qualify. Because the entire aperture clears when the casement swings open, there is nothing in the opening restricting the path out.
